Why I started Practical Preparedness UK
Hi, I am Edgars, the person behind Practical Preparedness UK.
I have been in the Fire and Rescue Service for over 12 years and am also involved in training.
Over that time, I have seen and learned a lot, not only about emergencies themselves but also about how people react when something unexpected happens.
One thing I have realised is that you do not need a major disaster for everyday life to suddenly become difficult. A house fire, power cut, severe weather, water outage, an accident, or simply being separated from your family when something happens can quickly put people under pressure.
Most families are not completely unprepared. They probably have a first-aid kit, torches, some food, power banks, and other useful items around the house.
But owning equipment and having a plan are two different things.
That is why I started Practical Preparedness UK.
I wanted to take what I have learned through my experience and help ordinary people and families prepare in a practical and realistic way. No doomsday scenarios, no scare tactics, and no telling people they need to spend thousands of pounds on equipment.
My aim is simple:
To help families understand where their important gaps are, decide what actually matters for their household, and leave them with a clear plan they can work through.
